H-beam is a kind of Economic section steel, which sectional area distribution is more optimized, the ratio of strength to weight is more reasonable, Mechanical properties of section is more better.It is developed from the I-section steel optimization of a better section mechanical properties of the economic section steel, because its section is same as the English letter "H" ,so be named as H-Beam. Because the various part of H-beam is arranged at right angles, H-beam has the advantages of strong bending resistance, simple construction, cost saving and light structural weight in all directions, so it has been widely used.
H-beam as a new type of economic construction steel. The section shape of H-beam steel is economical and reasonable, the mechanical properties are good, and the elongation of each point on the section is uniform and the internal stress is small. Compared with the ordinary I-beam steel, it has the advantages of more large section modulus,more light weight and more saving metal, which can reduce the building structure by 30-40%. And because its legs inside and outside parallel, leg end is a right Angle, assembled into components, can save the workload of welding and riveting up to 25%. It is often be used in large buildings (such as workshops, high-rise buildings, etc.), as well as Bridges, ships, lifting and transportation machinery, equipment foundation, supports, foundation piles, etc.

There are many product specifications of H-shaped steel, and the classification methods are as follows.
(1) According to the flange width of the product, it is divided into wide flange, middle flange and narrow flange H-beam.
The flange width B of the wide flange and middle flange H-beam is greater than or equal to the web height H.
The flange width B of the narrow flange H-section steel is approximately equal to one-half of the web height H.
(2) According to the product use, it is divided into H-shaped steel beams, H-shaped steel columns, H-shaped steel piles, and H-shaped steel beams with extremely thick flanges.
Sometimes parallel leg channel steel and parallel flange T-beam are also included in the scope of H-beam. Generally, the narrow-flange H-shaped steel is used as the beam material, and the wide-flange H-shaped steel is used as the column material. Therefore, it is also called beam-shaped H-shaped steel and column-shaped H-shaped steel.
(3) According to the production method, it is divided into welded H-shaped steel and rolled H-shaped steel.
(4) According to the size and size, it is divided into large, medium and small H-shaped steel. Usually, products with a web height H above 700mm are called large, those with a web height of 300-700mm are called medium, and those with a web height H of less than 300mm are called small.
