Classification of steel rebars
There are many types of steel rebars, usually classified according to chemical composition, production process, rolling shape, supply form, diameter size, and use in structures:
A. According to the size of the diameter
Steel wire (diameter 3~5mm), thin steel rebar (diameter 6~10mm), thick steel rebar (diameter greater than 22mm).
B. According to mechanical properties
Grade Ⅰ steel rebar (300/420 grade); Ⅱ grade steel rebar (335/455 grade); Ⅲ grade steel rebar (400/540) and Ⅳ grade steel rebar (500/630)
C. According to the production process
Hot-rolled, cold-rolled, cold-drawn steel rebars, as well as heat-treated steel rebars made of grade IV steel rebars, have higher strength than the former.
D. According to the role in the structure
Compression rebars, tension rebars, erection rebars, distributed rebars, stirrups, etc.
The steel rebars configured in reinforced concrete structures can be divided into the following types according to their functions:
1. Reinforced tendon—a steel rebar that bears tensile and compressive stress.
2. Stirrups - bear part of the cable tension stress and fix the position of the stressed tendons, mostly used in beams and columns.
3. Erecting rebars - used to fix the position of the steel hoops in the beams to form the steel skeleton in the beams.
4. Distributing ribs—used in roof panels and floor slabs, arranged vertically with the stress ribs of the slab, to evenly transfer the weight to the stress ribs, fix the position of the stress ribs, and resist temperature deformation caused by thermal expansion and contraction.

E. According to the rolled shape
①Smooth steel rebars: Grade I steel rebars (Q300 steel rebars) are all rolled into a smooth circular section, and the supply form is round, with a diameter not greater than 10mm and a length of 6m~12m.
② Ribbed steel rebars: There are three types: spiral, herringbone and crescent. Generally, grade II and III steel rebars are rolled into herringbone shapes, and grade IV steel rebars are rolled into spiral and crescent shapes.
③Steel wire (divided into low carbon steel wire and carbon steel wire) and steel strand.
④Cold-rolled and twisted steel rebars: after cold rolling and cold twisting.
